To all virgin media users I'm a new client at virgin and have recently purchased the full fibre Gig1 package with VM I was told I am not able to use my digital bt phoneline which runs on voip. My home is currently on the openreach network and I have my VM instalation set for the 10th of October. I Need to have a landline that can operate with vm that's also affordable. This would be for a house not a business. Any help would be amazing.

If you are currently using the dedicated handsets for BT's Digital Voice, these handsets only work with BT hubs.

If you want to use a VM landline with VM, you firstly need to make sure that a landline service is included in your VM package.
VM's landline system, at the moment, uses an ordinary domestic phone plugged into the back of the VM hub via an adapter.
Many people choose to use a cordless system with the cordless base station plugged into the VM hub and cordless handsets used around the home as required.
Alternatively, if you don't have the VM landline service as part of your package, you could take out a separate service with a dedicated VOIP provider which would make your phone connection independent of broadband provider.

We have 3 VOIP lines i.e. telephones that are plugged into a network socket of the Virgin Media Hub.
In our case the phones are Cisco and our VOIP provider is Sipgate.
If you have a BT VOIP account and VOIP phones that connect to a network socket I would expect that to work over a Virgin Media internet connection.
We totally avoided porting any phone numbers to Virgin Media because one the numbers are in a bundle
VM make it quite a nightmare to unravel should we wish to move phones to a different provider. Plus what VM offer for home phone users is not VOIP - a BT style of analogue phone has to be used, retaining all the drawbacks of a legacy analogue land line.

I do not know if it’s true, but I have seen on the board that a landline is not available if you have FTP.

Can't add it to the package as they do not offer it my homes is a new FTTP installed home by openreach and virgin will install a new line . They have categorised my home as XGS or something along those lines

Just port your BT number to a VoIP supplier. You can then keep your number whoever you choose to supply your broadband. Note that once you port your number I believe this will cease your BT Contract?
I'm a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share knowledge, I don't work for Virgin Media. Learn more

I have SIPGate too but they don't accept new free residential numbers anymore only business which costs a bit.

Based on the previous post ...
The BT line has been terminated, hence there is no telephone number to port,
The matter is closed.

You are on XGS-PON which for the time being does not provide VoIP, so you'll have to go with a VoIP provider. I believe your BT Digital Voice phone only works with BT's Smart hub 2, so you'll need another phone (be it dedicated or cordless VoIP or analogue).
