Issue with Modem Mode for a FTTP Hub 5x

I'm trying to setup a UniFi Express router, and I can't seem to establish an internet connection in modem mode. I've tried variations along the same theme, router resets, different ports, disabling Firewall, DMZ, DHCP, ensuring one cable is plugged in, and attempting modem mode directly to my laptop. In every case, no internet connection.

The first oddity I've noted is that the public IP being assigned is the same in router mode and modem mode.

The second oddity is that I've tested modem mode a few days ago, during a time where there was a fault and I couldn't connect to the internet in router mode. However, at the time, I could establish an internet connection by having modem mode connected directly to my laptop (this is what drove me to purchase my own router). A few days later, now the fault is fixed, I have the same problem in reverse. Router mode works, modem mode does not.

Short of obtaining another 5x router for a new MAC address, I'm not sure what else to try.

I'd appreciate any insight, and thank you for your time.

You could try making a note of the MAC address of the ethernet adapter of your laptop that worked and set that as your WAN MAC in the UniFi settings, then reboot the HUB again, unless your laptop no longer works either?

Try a random MAC address if that's the case.

Modem mode is still not enabled on the Hub5x so its not possible yet

What make/model of router have you got - can you use it in access point mode?

Someone this week reported seeing an on-screen option for modem mode on the 5x which turned out to be a non-functioning software glitch

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the laptop no longer works either, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

That's useful. I don't have the option either, and I've been navigating directly to the page via ?page=modemmode

That's intriguing. Modem mode isn't available for the 5x at all? It might explain things. I have a Ubiquiti UniFi Express. I'm considering connecting them through the Hub5x's DMZ as well. Which would you recommend?

"Modem mode isn't available for the 5x at all? "

Nope and no timetable for it to be activated yet.

That's exactly what I did with my Nest WiFi Pro and it works fine.
