Getting HUB5 into modem mode issue

Hello

My current setup is a HUB3 running in Modem Mode connecting to Velop Mesh which is working fine.

As part of an upgrade I just received a new HUB5.

After connecting my laptop to the 2.5Gb Port via a LAN Cable i get a DHCP Address and then can connect to the default 192.168.0.1 IP Address, from here i go through the setup screens. From the menu i select the Modem Mode, i then get the popup screen saying allow 5 minutes to reset and the IP will change to 192.1.68.100.1 after restating...

The issue is that once it restarts (i have also rebooted and removed all cables) i have no access to via the 192.168.100.1 Address (again using the 2.5Gb Port, i don't seem to get any DHCP IP Address. I have also manually set an IP from this range on my laptop) and the LED only show the flashing red and flashing white states - it never goes to the green LED indicating Modem Mode.

The HUB5 is not currently connected to the VirginMedia Fiber Network, so my question is will the HUB switch to Modem Mode (green LED) with no actual Virgin connection at this point?

  • Yes as above.  Does it work in Router mode, i.e. does the LED go solid white?  If not it sounds like it needs activated.

  • Morning, thanks for the comments

I haven't yet connected the HUB to the VirginMedia Cable Network yet (i was trying to do everything offline to make to switch quicker... less complaints from the kids as it is Easter Hols).

I guess as part of the first connection to the Virgin Network this does the activation of the HUB?

When i get home i will connect the HUB to Virgin, give it 30 minutes to make sure it connects and then switch it to Modem Mode and see if that helps the issue.

  • Hi, just to update, i connected the HUB5 to VirginMedia this morning just in "Router" mode and i received the SMS saying that the hub had been activated so i just let it connect fully, it then carried out a firmware update - confirmed it working in Router mode, and then switched it into "Modem" Mode... it rebooted and then shows the green LED... and away we went...

    Thanks for help
