I thought that I would need to set the HUB 5X to modem mode, but I can't find that setting.  

Is there a guide available?

double NAT and hope modem mode happens

If double NAT is a concern, using the Mesh in Access Point is also an option until the Hub 5x gains modem mode.

Its better not to best be on your LAN and not VM LAN

Still want to turn your Nest Wifi router or primary Wifi point into a bridge? Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Favourites   Wi-Fi   Settings   Advanced networking.
  3. Tap Network mode  your Wifi router or point  Bridge mode.
  4. Tap Save
