Insane ping/degradation when downloading

Just switched to M125 (~130mbps, Hub 3 I believe) from Sky "Superfast" broadband (30mbps) and instantly noticed one big difference. When I'm downloading a game on my PS5, my ping in an online game is ridiculous. I'm talking 120-250, bouncing all around. This also affects other devices, like streaming ones.

I understand that downloading something does this, but Sky wasn't anywhere near this big of a difference. I wouldn't even notice the lag most of the time and I would only go to around the 40 range when downloading through a 5x slower speed.
I could download and play on much slower speeds on a Sky Hub that was probably not far off 10 years old, WiFi and ethernet was better than wired Hub 3. I absolutely cannot play and download at the same time with this Hub 3.

I've seen talk of buying another router and setting up in modem mode, but I really don't think I should have to do this. Would this work? I'm only really bothered about not being able to download something simultaneously, also worried about if another device starts downloading stuff randomly if it'll hit my connection in the same way.

Virgin's own app has my latency at 232 whilst downloading.

Yup same here with M125 and its even worse when something is uploading I solved by a high end router doing QoS/BWM rating limiting download 110-115Mb and 19.1Mb upload

"I absolutely cannot play and download at the same time with this Hub 3."

Quelle surprise !

Hi yutagg,

Thanks for posting and welcome to our community 😊

Sorry to see you're having some issues with the connection. Are you using a wired or wireless connection?

Is the issue only when gaming?

Superfast

It's because the Docsis & (v)DSL packet schedulers work differently.   As said using QOS bandwidth limiter is the only option.

Not downloading and not running needless speed tests at a critical times is also an option.

But yes, vdsl will have given you a better connection for gaming.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.
