I have enabled the guest network, but I can access devices on my normal network when on the guest network - how do I prevent access to my network for people using the guest network.

On your laptop or mobile, delete the Wi-Fi profile(s) for access to the the normal network,
can you still access the devices on your normal network ?

the device has never been on the network, new work computer i enabled guest access to access wan for work vpn, but it turns out i can access everything on my normal lan.

both devices connected via wifi and cable

guest network only works by wifi

Hence the work laptop must not be cable connected to the VM Hub or to any VM Pods etc.

"guest network only works by wifi"

Well obviously!

Can you contribute to the question - I know the guest Wi-Fi is via Wi-Fi - the clue is in the name - the 25th of December is in December as well! - that doesn't try to resolve the problem either!

OK, I will try to make this clearer – although I am not sure if I can.

We have a work computer that needs to access the internet for the work VPN via Wi-Fi.

We DO NOT want or will we connect this computer on our network, NOR DO WE WANT THIS TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our network.

This is why we enabled the Guest Wi-Fi

We need:

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi to be able to access the internet.
  • -     This is OK – it does this.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access other devices on the Guest Wi-Fi
  • -      This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on our guest Wi-Fi – actually not that worried about this – it is our own network that is a concern.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access our printer for example on our wired network.
  • -     This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on our wired network – THIS IS AN ISSUE!   WE DO NOT WANT DEVICES ON THE GUEST NETWORK TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our own network.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access the TV for example on our Wi-Fi network.
  • -     This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on our normal Wi-Fi network – THIS IS AN ISSUE!   WE DO NOT WANT DEVICES ON THE GUEST NETWORK TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our own network.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access our phones for example on our Wi-Fi network.

              - This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on our normal Wi-Fi network – THIS IS AN ISSUE!   WE DO NOT WANT DEVICES ON THE GUEST NETWORK TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our own network.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access the SAN for example on our wired network.

- This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on our wired network – THIS IS AN ISSUE!   WE DO NOT WANT DEVICES ON THE GUEST NETWORK TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our own network.

  • Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access our main computer for example on our wired network.

  • In fact, as simply put in my original post: Anything connected via the guest Wi-Fi SHOULD NOT be able to access other devices on our normal networks.

- This is not the case – all devices on the guest Wi-Fi can see/access other devices on both our wired network and our normal Wi-Fi network – THIS IS AN ISSUE!   WE DO NOT WANT DEVICES ON THE GUEST NETWORK TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS ANYTHING on our own network.

I cannot pose the question any clearer than I have, if someone can phrase it any better – then please do.

The problem to me is quite simple – we don’t want anything on the guest Wi-Fi to be able to access anything that is on our normal networks, be that via Wi-Fi network, or wired network. – How do we achieve this?

Just enabling the Guest Wi-Fi as stated (and checked) by Virgin does not achieve this – anything on the Guest Wi-Fi can access EVERYTHING throughout our normal network. WHICH IS NOT WHAT WE WANT

"Hence the work laptop must not be cable connected to the VM Hub or to any VM Pods etc"

I thought I made it absolutely clear - WE DO NOT WANT anything on our Guest Wi-Fi - INCLUDING the work laptop to access our normal network!

Well a guess it don't work then VM might as well remove the option... or maybe it is working as intended in that you give the guest password out and not your main wifi password

3rd party stuff is more well tested for this type of thing that ISP clearly don't give a dam.

Hey Julieat, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry you are having this issue.

The guest network should reflect what current settings you are you can manage your settings by login into the hub by using the details at the bottom of it. Cheers
