I received an email to say I needed to update my essential broadband contract but no details of how to do it very complicated process

Try logging into you online VM account - it should detail the options available to you. Dont do anything yet until you are sure you have explored all available options and found one that suits you on price etc.
Agreeing any change will lock you into it for another 18 months.
