Essential broadband

Hi, could someone tell me why the basic essential broadband jumps from £12.50 when you join, to then £23 something in a matter of month or so?

Thanks T

  • When using most other Internet providers the contract doesn't alter mid contract but it's in Virgin Medias contracts that they have the right to change it, however if they change your terms you have the right to quit and go elsewhere. Just inform them that you do not wish to continue with them.

        Hello trishmac

Thanks for posting regarding the increase in price for your services, we appreciate you taking the time to let us know via the forums and welcome to the community.

If you are referring to our Essential package, more details on this can be found here. These are rolling 30 day contracts set at £12.50, if your cost has increased You can view your package and cost here, you will also receive a bill each month. The bill will include any promotional discounts currently on the account, they're value and the date they're due to expire outlining the package cost after they end. These can be viewed here.

Is there anything on your bill to indicate the reason for the increase in cost?

  • Hi T,

This is usually due to introductory pricing. Many broadband providers offer a lower “joiner” price for the first 6–12 months, which then reverts to the standard monthly rate after that period. It’s worth checking your contract or welcome email to see the exact duration of the promotional price.

The OP seems to be referring to the VM social tariff. If so, it appears to be fixed at £12.50.

However it needs to be re applied for every year or the tariff increases.
