I spoke to a technical man at Virgin Media. Because I need to use my home security camera when visiting another country. And 2.4 has a longer range than 5. And because my security camera simply says it doesn't work off 5 GhZ. He advised that I convert my 5 GhZ router to 2.4 this way.
Is this correct?
a) press the Reset button on the bottom of my 5 GhZ router
b) after a short wait, it asks for my Password
c) then it asks if I want 2.4 Ghz or 5 GhZ. I press the 2.4 Ghz option
He says that I go to Settings then to Network and Internet. On my Browser. I "imagine" this is where I am asked whether I want 2.4 or 5. Where a message comes up to that effect.
Is this accurate?

Folks appear endlessly confused about dual band Wi-Fi and often say / write things that are misleading.
VM Hubs transmit on both the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band.
If the CCTV camera either does not use or can not receive the 5GHz band that is fine it will use the 2.4GHz band.
What is happening to prevent you installing the CCTV camera with the Hub in its current configuration ?
Please be precise ... E.g screen shots of the error messages from the CCTV management app or program.

In addition to the above, some IoT cannot work with a single SSID. You may have to disable the 5Ghz band as a temp measure to connect the camera. Once connected, reinstate the 5Ghz band.

Having been reliably informed a Hub 5 does pass network traffic between the 2.4GHz & 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands...
...are we are back to the original suspicion - IoT install problems are down to failure to R-T-F-M ?

To be fair @Client62 I've had some IoT devices that I just couldn't get working. Any branded ones work 100%, but some cheap and cheerful stuff was just a waste of money ..... 😉

This problem emerged when Virgin Media sent me the new 5 GHz router. I have a home security camera that only runs off 2.4 GHz. How do I know this? I reset it twice after it stopped working. On both occasions it specifically told me (through using a tick and cross) that it does not run off 5 GHz wavelength. I found out later that this is common. As 2.4 GHz has a longer range. Security cameras are most useful when the householder is a long distance away. On holiiday in another country for example. It worked perfectly, since 2017, until the 5 GHz router came along.

All VM Hubs are 5 and 2.4Ghz band transmitting simultaneously. However there have been users who have had success connecting to a different Wifi unit similar to the one below. TP-Link AC1750 Universal Dual Band Range Extender, Broadband/Wi-Fi Extender, Wi-Fi Booster/Hotspot w...
If you try this with the same SSID and passwords as the Hub, your camera may work. If not, return it.

Unfortunately time moves on, and IoT from 2017 is ancient now in the scheme of things. It may be the more modern WIfi chipset in the Hub, is just not compatible with your camera. Try the 3rd party extender I suggested in my earlier post?
