Connecting wireless AP to Wifi Pod via Ethernet

Hi all,

It's me again.

I managed to order and install one WiFi pod which has made a big difference to the wifi experience in my living room. Yey!

Unfortunately, I still have some issues with a number of devices which do not like to play with the way the VM network equipment handles band steering. I am in the unfortunate position of having to split the 2.4 and 5 Ghz WiFi bands to allow a few of my (older) smart devices to work properly.

I can think of is to connect a separate wireless access point to the VM pod via ethernet and use the wireless access point as a dedicated network for my legacy devices. I have included a diagram below to better explain.

Now onto the problem - whenever I connect a wireless AP to the VM Pod via one of the two ethernet ports, the Pod disconnects from the VM Superhub and the LED starts flashing various colours. I have left it for a while and it doesn't connect back to the hub via wifi. The only way to get it to connect to the Superhub is to disconnect the ethernet cable to the wireless access point.

Any ideas as to why this may happen? I am pretty sure the thernet ports on the VM pods are supposed to be used to "hard wire" external devices - there shouldn't be any difference between, say, a PC connected to the pod via ethernet and a wireless AP.

Most likely licence agreement for the pods with this limitation.

You might as well go you own route and forget the pod.

Actually I was on my way back to the forum to report that I found the issue.

My TP-LINK wireless access point also has router capabilities. I had it setup in AP mode but this did not turn off all routing functions and the APs DHCP service was set to "Auto" rather than "off". The VM wifi pod did not like this at all.

All I had to do was turn the APs DHCP service "off" manually and it seems to work fine now. Fingers crossed!

I can confirm this is still working perfectly two days later now that I have forced "off" the DHCP service on the AP.

If anyone else encounters a similar issue, check your DHCP settings.

DHCP off on your Router is correct for this configuration.

You are so close to dumping the VM Pod and using the Hub in modem mode + your Router

It might be better to have VM's troublesome WiFi kit fully disabled.

I have the same setup but using Ubiquiti AP ( with Poe injector) . Both Ap & pot located closely .

my problem the AP give strong signal but very low speed
