Can't connect smart plugs

Wondering if anyone can help with my problem please.

I used to have my VM hub 5 connected to a Netgear router to get the wifi signal all around the house. Smart plugs worked fine.

Long story short, the internet kept dropping and was very unreliable so I decided to go back to just the VM hub as not using loft rooms anymore. Now I cannot connect my smart plugs. They say they need 2.4 and I know the hub is putting that out as my laptop is connecting on 2.4.

Anyone have any advice on how to get the plugs working again. It is going to work out very expensive to have to change them all and they were all working on the netgear router.

Try temporarily turning off the 5GHz connection on the hub. Then try and link the smart plugs. If/when they connect, turn the 5GHz wifi back on again and see if they hold the connection still.

In its default condition, the hub uses a combined SSID name on both 2.4 and 5 GHz. which can confuse some simple 2.4 GHz devices.

The Hub 5 also uses the latest AX wifi standard which also seems to throw up a few issues when connecting non-AX devices.

Thank you I will give that a try.

If the smart plugs can not detect the 2.4GHz WI-Fi signal from the Hub 5, they are ( like so many IoTs ) not compatible with Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax of the Hub 5. No amount of fiddling with the Hub 5 will change that.

In this case perhaps factory reset the Netgear router and re-install it to support the smart plugs.

Thank you so much! Been trying for 2 weeks to get these connected with no success and your fix has worked! Much appreciated 🙂
