returned equipment

i had virgin installed a few years ago approx 10 yrs or so  now in my sons name. son moved out so i cancelled services and the equipment was in my cupboard for yrs. i then had virgin do house visit to pick uo said equipment so handed it over. thinking they would obviously ammend this on my sons account. but now my son is being hounded at his new address for this. im sure man at door gave me some kind of sticker or prrof of return but cant find this. what can i now do as this is not fair on my son as the letters are threatening court action etc.
