Sim Card Price Increase on Contract Renewal

mingsy
Up to speed

I renewed my broadband, TV and landline contract last month. Yesterday I got a text message from O2 telling me my monthly Sim only price was going up from ~£7.00 to ~ £12.00 a month. I went to the local O2 shop today and they told me this has happened as I have renewed my Virgin contract and lost the discount that was being applied to my Sim. Surely this is not correct, at no time when I was renewing did they say my Sim price would change?

Hello mingsy

Sorry to hear of the confusion caused by the increase to the cost of your O2 SIM as part of your Volt package. We appreciate you taking the time to raise this with us via the forums.

We can see you're in a Private Message with one of my colleagues, although this is a different query, to ensure all of the details and information are kept in the same place we'd ask you to raise this via that thread. This will help save time and potential confusion.

Rob

Do you mean in the PM I'm having with one of your colleagues or the other the other thread that has nothing to do with this issue?

Hi @mingsy

Sorry for the confusion over the threads.

The O2 SIM would increase every year, and the increase price would be the standard increase not to do with your Virgin Media upgrade.

For further contact, i'd advise contacting o2 directly here - https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply John, and it did increase in April by the normal % but this is an additional increase. I'm concerned here that O2 and Virgin will deny it's their problem and I'm stuck in the middle. I never had any notification until yesterday. The deals that Virgin mobile offered were always reasonable, the O2 ones are extortionate. Today I was offered 1GB date for £20 per month. If I leave O2 I lose the Volt benefits, totally unacceptable.

Thank you for popping back to us @mingsy and we can fully understand your frustrations. As this is now an O2 SIM we would advise reaching out to the directly to discuss a potential new SIM deal. You can view how to contact them here

Please do let me know how the conversation with them goes however and we will continue to do all we can to assist.

Just to hopefully close this, I phoned O2 today. It sounds like the message I got was incorrect. It's almost a year since my 30 day contract migrated to O2 and the message I received was for people on a 12 month contract. As mine is a rolling 30 days I'm told the price will remain as it currently is. We will find out next month, if it's not I can take another O2 deal from uSwitch or Moneysupermarket which are far better than what their store offer.

Thanks for getting back to @mingsy,

We're glad you have been able to speak to O2 with regards to this, if there is anything further we can do or anything else you want to discuss with us, please come back to us.

That should NOT be affecting your O2 price. Only the yearly price increases affect it.
