Moving abroad and ending contract

Hi @Joseph_B, my employer is relocating me & my family to the USA on a one way assignment. We will be moving out of our house on April 24th. We have been loyal customers with Virgin Media for over 10 years. Given the exceptional circumstances I expected VM to waive any cancellation fee but instead I am being told that I must pay around £940 for the outstanding term of the contract. I personally find this shocking and insulting give how long we have been with VM. A terrible way to leave the country and a horrible "farewell and thank you for your custom" from VM. Is there anyone at VM that could help waive this extortionate cancellation fee?

It is in the Ts and Cs that you agreed to when you signed up. However it does seem a huge sum. In addition there is a logical inconsistency for me in allowing those customers moving to UK addresses with no VM service to leave fee free but not those who move overseas with no VM service. This has never been properly explained as far as I am aware.

Good luck with the move BTW.

Hey @Y1ANN1 Thanks for reaching out to us and a warm welcome to the Virgin Media Community forums, 👋🏼

I'm sorry to hear about the situation you are in regarding the termination fees. 🧾
Please note that the termination fees are there because of an agreed contract - and a withdrawal of this results in those charges, unless you fall in the criteria to be exempt, which is not the case as this move if via your employer

However, we w will look in to this for you and we will see what we can.
I will send a private message for further support. 📧

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Hi Y1ANN1

That sounds like an exciting new adventure, best of luck with your move.

It might be worthwhile asking your employer to reimburse the leaving costs since they are relocating your good self and family.

Hi Ilyas...I am in a similar position as OP with around 6 months left out of the 18 month contract and will need to move out of country due to a family emergency, hope you have an exception waiver policy for a loyal customer based on humanitarian grounds for moving out of UK due to family emergency?

Will send you a separate message, please help me out, thanks.

Hey Pary_Dham, thank you for reaching out and a warm welcome to the community I am sorry to hear this.

If you are moving out of the UK there would be a disconnection fee for this, we only waive it when you are moving somewhere in the UK where we cannot provider services.

Anything outside the UK would result in a disconnection fee sorry.

I would also speak to the movers on 0345 454 1111. Cheers
