Early disconnection - Moving out of HMO

Myself and a friend moved into a 5 bedroom house in September. The house has been waiting on a HMO (House of Multiple Occupants License), hence only two of us renting it. I took out a 12 month contract for broadband with VM in the September as we did not know how long the HMO would take to come through/ how long we would be staying. We were always intent on leaving the property once it became a HMO. The license has now come through and new tenants will be moving in at the end of February. If I cancel the VM contract I will be charged a £153 early disconnection fee. The house still needs broadband for the new tenants. What is the best solution here? Can the package be transferred to the new tenants or am I stuck with the fee? Any advice would be great! I am moving back into my family home so can't take the package there.

Hi @emmaikelly,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

From what you've explained, we would not transfer the name of the account holder in this circumstance. The new tenants would need to make contact and take out a new contract of services with us. You would in turn cancel your services and potentially be subject to an early disconnection fee.

You can find all of the circumstances in which the account holder can be changed here.

Please do let us know if there's anything more that we can help you with.

Thanks,
