I am just out of contract on a broadband, landline and anytime calls package. I would like to port out my telephone number to a new VOIP provider, but, for the meantime, keep my broadband unchanged. Is it possible to do that, and retain the existing broadband service, without entering a new contract?
Will there be a charge for porting out the landline number?

Thanks for coming back to me Olbasoil 🙂
As adduxi mentioned I explained it after Highway asked a question along the same lines 😁
Once you give us your 30 day notice to leave you can contact your gaining provider and give them your disconnection date. They should be able to time your activation with your disconnection, but there's not much else we can do other than book your disconnection. Most of the legwork will need to be done by your new provider in order for them to transfer your landline number from us, to them.
All we do when we're the losing provider is book the broadband & TV cancelation with a number port-out & keep the landline service active indefinitely until it's been ported out.
I really hope my explanation is easy to understand! 😅 Let me know if you'd like to start your disconnection journey and we'll go into a PM together 🤗
Thanks,
Meg

I suspect when you change to BB only, you will effectively start a new 18 month contract. The number port will cease your current landline in any case, so again a change in contract.

Hi Olbasoil,
Thanks for your post and welcome back to our Community Forums 🙂
When you do a landline port but keep your broadband & TV running it will enter you into a new 18 month contract as Adduxi said, as the service price & content would change.
But, there's no porting charge that goes along with it.
We can help with this action here on the Forums, so let us know if you'd like to go ahead and we'll be happy to help 😎
Thanks,

Hiya Highway,
You help us out a lot on here & it's much appreciated! Let me answer your question below -
Or maybe not, do I cancel the whole lot and run the risk of the number port failing because there is a ‘cease notice’ against it?
Anyone have any ideas?
In this case where the whole package is being cancelled because we're the losing provider, we would normally ask for the usual 30 days notice. On day 30 the TV & Broadband would be disconnected but the landline would continue to operate. That's because the landline service needs to be active in order for the gaining provider to request the number from us.
Once the landline number port is complete it will also close down the landline service on our side.
I hope this answers your question! 🤗

I thought that would be the case (port out of landline, but retaining broadband would create a new contract). So I've decided to move broadband as well.
How should I do this to avoid risk of losing my phone number, but also avoid paying for duplicate landline? Should I ask the new voip provider to initiate the port-out, or should I give my 30 days notice directly?

@Megan_L has explained it very well here and I quote
"In this case where the whole package is being cancelled because we're the losing provider, we would normally ask for the usual 30 days notice. That's because the landline service needs to be active in order for the gaining provider to request the number from us."
So I'm guessing you will have to pay VM for the landline usage up to the port disconnection, even after you have done the 30 day cancellation for Broadband.

Also be aware the landline attracts a huge discount on your Broadband. The new contract will lose that discount, so the amount you gain per month will be in single figures & not the £19 you currently pay for line rental.
Many keep the landline solely because of the discount. If you are on triple play (landline, broadband & TV) you lose even more money by doing this.

Hi Meg,
I have given my notice to leave Virgin, and now need to port the number to my new provider. I'm not sure how much detail I should give on a public forum, and I would appreciate some more guidance via PM... but do not know how to start that?

Thanks for coming back to us olbasoil. If you are porting out from Virgin Media, you will need to get in touch with your new provider, who will then get in touch with ourselves via porting order to arrange the export of the number from our network.
Kind Regards,
