When to port out landline

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in contract with Virgin Media until 30th January 2025 and recently had FTTP installed alongside my Virgin broadband connection. I want to port out my landline to another provider and wanted to know the best time to initiate this process.

Should I wait until I give Virgin the 30 days' notice to begin porting, I wouldn't pay more for the package in the final month would I by doing this, or is it better to start the porting process sooner (I suspect the broadband cost will increase as it’s a bundle)? I’d appreciate it if someone from the team could look into this and advise on the best approach.

Thanks!

Hi @imran 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us. When coming to the discounted minimum term of your package you have a few options, you can either shop around and see if there is another provider who can supply you with the services you require, or we can look into your package and see what deals there are available for you. The best time to be looking is around 30-45 days prior to 30th Jan 2025.

Should you choose to leave us we would advise the OTS (One Touch Switch) process as this will ease up on having to go back and forth with providers, once you complete this on your chosen providers website they will contact us advising you are leave and when. Then we will put in any requests to cancel with us and we will reach out to you for equipment returns and any final bills and such.

If you wish to discuss your package with us further down the line, you can do so either here on the Community Forums via private message or via our Retentions Team 📞 0345 454 1111, menu options, 1, 4, & 4 (thinking of leaving us), as well as your online account here 👉 Existing customers.

I hope this helps.

Hi Sabrina

When would I start this process, during my 30 days notice to avoid early termination. Also, does OTS support telephone only as I don't need to move broadband, I'll be cancelling that option.

Thanks

If you wish to only take one service to a new provider, we recommend calling the retentions team as they can take care of all services including the porting side to your new provider. We can take a notice period of up to 60 days.

Please ensure you have your new provider secured first and let them know that you are taking your number from us to them, then reach out to us to start the termination process.

Would you be able to handle the termination via pm?

Yes that can be done also.

Thank you, I will send you a private message and update it closer to the time when I can give 60 days notice, many thanks.

Best thing to do is when you are ready, post here just incase I may not be in and another member of the team will see it and invite you in as we would not want your message to go missed 🌞

Thank you Sabrina, I'll update this post closer to the time

Amazing, we will speak to you then 🌞.
