Porting a landline

I am leaving virgin and would like to port my landline to a new provider just for incoming calls as that is what it is usually used for. The number is still active.

I have been told that as it has been over a month the new provider will not port it.

Can I have the old VM landline number ported to a Virgin/O2 mobile?

If not I need a code to use it on a porting service.

You might find it is easier to port the VM landline number to a VOIP provider.  

We did this with two BT phone lines, it works well and has been exceedingly cost effective.
