Phone No Ringing

I have a dial tone and can make outgoing call, but when I have incoming calls the phone doesn’t ring. I have tried a different handset, and it is still not ringing, but if you lift the receiver the call connects. When I called Virgin Media for help they told me there was no fault on the line. Can anyone help please? I only have a landline for my family to contact me in the night for emergency and it’s no good if it doesn’t ring, how am I to know they are calling!
