VirginMedia Hub 5 Ring Connection

Hi All, I need some help connecting my RING devices to a VirginMedia Hub 5.

I've seen some previous threads concerning this, so have followed the comments made by doing the following;

- Logging in to my Hub 5 online
- Separating out 2.4ghz and 5ghz by renaming the fields xxxx_24 and xxx_5 (same password)
- 2.4ghz settings: channel 11 (I've tried channel 1 too) and channel width 20 MHz (the other option is 20/40 MHz)
- Turning off Channel Optimization
- DMZ disabled
- I tried disabling the firewall (as instructed by RING customer support), but this failed too.

When I try and change the broadband settings on the RING I can see the xxx_24 network, but when I try and connect to it, it runs to 95% and then errors out.

I have another broadband line that the RING is connected to at present which is Vodaphone. It connects to this no problem at all. I want to cancel the Vodaphone broadband, but can't do this until I can get the RING connected to VirginMedia.

Any help to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone managed to connect RING to a Virgin Hub 5?

Assuming the connection is managed by an app on a mobile phone,
try with the mobile phone connected to the xxx_24 network.

I've tried that too, still no connection.

Ring customer service told me that channels 1, 6 and 11 are suitable for 2.4ghz. Channel 6 won't connect and I've tried 1 and 11, still no connection.

Ring also told me to try with the firewall turned off, but this wouldn't work either.

      Up to speed

The Hub 5 supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi so why mess about with it to such a point that makes it a pain for VMs customers to get all their devices working.

VM doing Wifi...digging hole comes to mind...

  • Same issues here.....chimes 2 won't connect on 2.4Ghz network. Tried all 3 channels. Hub5 with 2 networks. Tired channels 1,6,11 no joy. Channel Optimization is off. On the 802.11 there is no option to go with 802.11b only.  The weird thing is that all this worked on the 2.4Ghz network until recently so I suspect VM did some updates which disabled some of the old 2.4Ghz functionality. Ho Hum....so either  go with range extender (is VM going to pay for this ) or buy something that works on 5Ghz...either more expense because VM are trying to force everyone onto 5Ghz. Many folks also have CCTV cameras which work on 2.4Ghz  ...... not very friendly VM
