Landline takes a long time to connect

I recently installed the Telephone hub at my moms home. The landline takes a very long time to connect, one can hear the numbers being entered but then it goes dead quiet for 20 seconds. At this point she believes the phone not to be working. Why is it taking so long to connect and ring through? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to hear there's some issue with the line at your mums. Can you confirm if you've tried a different handset just to rule that out?

Is this the same when the full number is dialled i.e.  Area Code + Number ?
