Landline not working

My landline is dead, no ringtone & engaged tone when I ring it. My 89yo neighbour’s line (Virgin) is also dead. I phoned the 0345 number about an hour ago … please advise next steps.

Mine went down last week, Virgin engineer turned up today and fixed it: apparently all landlines should now be attached to Router rather than phone socket. This is due to a nationwide switchover from analogue to digital, BT and Openreach are doing the same.
