deleting old emails

I've just installed Thunderbird to download emails as I am near the 25 G limit on an ntlworld account. 

How do I delete emails on the server before, say 2020?

    Make sure you have adequate backups of emails before proceeding.

    Consider trying following in Thunderbird if account was setup to use IMAP:

    • press Ctrl + Shift + F to open Search Messages dialogue box
    • confirm correct account is selected in Search for messages in field
    • amend search criteria as shown below:
    • select Search and review results returned satisfy search criteria
    • either delete message from with dialogue box or Save as Search Folder and delete from there
