Windows Live mail problem

Hi

Since July 1st I have been unable to send emails from my Windows Livemail (receiving is OK). Error message states " server rejected sender's email address".

I have twice spoken to the VM tech helpline & got nowhere. The last person who I spoke to stated that Virgin are aware of the problem & will get it sorted in due course, & that I did not need to take any action.

Could someone from Virgin give me an idea when this issue will be resolved please ?

Thanks.

If you have had to give VM a third party email address, you will now have to use an app password for WLM (which you generate from within 'My VM' for the email account you are trying to connect)

See

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account

and the section 'Setting your app password to use an Email app'

Support for Windows Essentials 2012 ended 10/1/17 so the program is defunct in the sense it is no longer supported and you should indeed really make a managed change to something else.

But I think the info from Graham_A refers to Microsoft's own email accounts preventing access on its own services if I have read it correctly.

You should still be able to use an email client to connect to VM email.

If, however, you have now had to provide the third party email address, the most useful thing to expend any time on would be to start the process of moving any accounts and services that are linked to the VM email address over to the new third party email so that eventually the VM email becomes redundant.

I can still access my WLM emails without using a password, & they also appear in my VM email inbox. However, I cannot reply or forward the emails from the WLM inbox - I have to log into the VM system to do that. If I try & reply to anything from the WLM inbox I still get the "unexpectedly terminated the connection" message.

If you can receive OK in WLM, but not send, that suggests a problem with your outbound server settings in WLM.

There was a topic from yesterday where WLM came back to life once the correct settings were updated for all accounts in WLM

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Windows-Live-Mail-not-receiving-VM-Emails/td-p/5546935

See if there are still outbound SMTP server settings that do not match up to the requirements

If you think the settings are all OK, there may be another reason for the non-connection but I am not sure what the next thing to try would be.

I think after that (and if you can still access/use VM webmail OK) I would just be focussing on setting up an alternative email client with a new third party email address and moving contacts over.

Thanks - I'll give that a try.
