Outlook Express not sending (VM401)

Howard93
Tuning in

Hi,

I have been away on holiday for 2 weeks - on return my Outlook Express is fine on receive but any outgoing mail fails and stays in outbox. The error message says VM401 etc.

Would appreciate some advice and maybe VM engineer help.

Thanks

Howard

Start by checking the outbound SMTP server settings match those below

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account

The settings for Outlook are here

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Can-t-send-emails-and-can-t-access-my-webmail-or-my-broad...

you should be able to find similar in Outlook Express

You possibly may also need to start using the app password as described above in the first link

Thanks for this.

I found a screen in Outlook advanced settings that set secure setting to the same as incoming mail. I selected this and tested connection and it now works. I can send e-mails as per usual.

Best Wishes
