Left VM for now

As of the 9th my VM circuit has ceased to be, so I have left the fold for the second time.

Nothing to do with the service, I was lucky and very, very rarely had any issues with my broadband supply.  Most likely because I was always in modem mode  😉

Now running BT on FTTP 500/70 as the sole supply for broadband.

For the curious here's a wired speed test, I couldn't not do one, could I?  🙂

Ethernet cabled Access Points will always give the best coverage, but it’s best to use a WiFi analyser on your phone to get the optimal positioning. I have PoE ceiling mounted WAPs and they give you the best signal, low down ones on tables restrict the signal. You can of course with most mesh systems hard wire them with Ethernet, but then they are just access points and their mesh functionality is unused.

My three access points are all ethernet connected, but I used the mesh option with one acting as the mesh root and the others as mesh nodes.  It works very well.

Hmm, what is a “Mesh” really?  My setup is not described as a Mesh but I can move from AP to AP without issue. Sure I can setup a master AP but why bother? All AP‘s are PoE connected so what’s the difference? I’m guessing “Mesh” for a home setup has no cabled backhaul and relies on AP to AP connections?

No argument there. I was expecting to use mine as separate APs, but the setup offered cable connected mesh. Being Draytek which I have used and trusted for years at work and home, I reckoned they had something worth using, so I did.

All I can say is that the phone app shows it moves reliably from one AP to another.
