Watch List

Help, we have just joined, and my wife has added Strictly Come Dancing BBC 1 (101), and Bake Off Extra Slice (104) to her Watch List, only to find a "Signed" version has been recorded, how do we revert to the normal version?

  • I have experienced this with Strictly myself, and believe it’s the wrong data that the BBC are using to flag this programme,

And it’s not unique to Virgin Stream, as the exact same thing is happening  on Sky Stream

  • Disappointed as I was told you could record programmes, and believed this would be the same as SKY

      Hi DofMH51,

The Watchlist doesn't actually contain recordings. It's basically a bookmarks manager – it helps you remember things you want to watch, and it gives you a shortcut for the actual watching.
You can only watch content that’s available for streaming on the company/streaming service’s servers.

If you see a future programme or film on the TV guide that you’re interested in then you can “Add it to your Watchlist”, which means one of two things:
      1. If it’s available for streaming right now, either on one of the 3rd party streaming apps (like BBC iPlayer) or on Virgin Media’s own Catch-Up service – you can simply jump ahead and watch it.
      2. If the show becomes available to watch in the future, it will wait for you on your Watchlist, and you’ll be able to stream it if and when it’s available.

You’re always dependent on what the streaming apps have in store for you. So if Channel 4 airs a live programme but DOESN’T upload it to their app then you won’t be able to watch it once the live broadcast is done. The same goes for all the other channels. Plus, if there’s a programme you plan on watching, and it gets removed after two months from BBC iPlayer or any of the other catch-up services then you won’t be able to watch it.

When you use the online postcode checker to confirm if VM could provide a broadband service at your address https://www.virginmedia.com/broadband/postcode-checker  does it offer you a 2 Gig connection amongst the various broadband options?

If so then you are in one of the current expansion areas which supplies a full fibre connection to new customers. In those areas the only VM TV service available is IPTV (streamed over the internet) via a Stream box.

The Stream (Flex) box became the default TV choice for all of VM's new customers around 6 months ago.

VM's recordable TV set top boxes (TV360) only work on the older DOCSIS cable network which uses coaxial copper cables which carry both the linear broadcast TV channels & the DOCSIS internet. A TV360 box (if available in your area) carries a £49.99 activation fee, and can only be ordered by contacting the sales team on 0800 183 1234.  Any additional boxes would be the non recordable Stream boxes.

  • Hi DofMH51,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

It may be that you've recorded a separate broadcast of the show which has the sign language included.

You can watch these shows via the apps on the 360 box anytime such as BBC iPlayer and the channel 4 app if you'd like to watch those episodes without the signing.

If you have any further questions, please pop back to us and we'd be happy to help.

You'd posted in the V6 section of the forum, but if you've only just joined VM you'll either have a non-recording Stream box or a TV360.

In either case, the underlying metadata which supports recording and VoD bookmarks should be the same across both platforms, and unfortunately signed-editions & audio-descriptions are not something that is taken into account here. The data is there, but it's not something that the recording/"add to list" logic allows you to specify either way.
