Poor picture quality

Hi. I’ve just changed from Sky HD on a Sky Q book to Virgin. However, the quality of the picture is not as good as Sky. Are there any adjustments or something I should change to make the quality as good.

I don't know what a Sky Q book is either.

Is there a typo?  Do you mean Sky Q box?  Or 'back' to Virgin?

Did you have UHD on Sky Q?

Have you tried a UHD channel on Virgin?

    How is the TV connected?

Check the TV settings and Virgin box settings (HDMI).

  • The Virgin box is connected by HDMI cable to the HDMI /4K arc input on the TV. Not sure what the best settings should be on the TV settings?

Can you be more specific about poor PQ? What is it about the picture that you're not happy with?

And what's the make & model of your TV?

  • The clarity of the picture on most channels is not as clear / definition. As Sky. My TV is a Sony Bravia 4K VH2

  • There really shouldn’t be much difference between the two pictures, and there are a few cases where the Virgin Stream picture should be better, e.g. some of the free to air U channels are now SD on satellite but HD on Virgin Stream.

I assume from what you say you are plugged directly in to an HDMI socket on the TV. Try a different one if you can just in case there is any difference.

Three things to check. The first two press home and go across to settings which is the cog near the right:

Firstly under Settings and “Audio & Video” I have HDMI resolution as automatic.

Secondly under System go to Diagnostics. Make sure you scroll down that page and see if there are any errors at the top or the bottom.

Finally have  look at Sky News [602]. After a few seconds whilst the connexion settles down is the ticker at the bottom of the screen smooth as it moves across the screen?

Almost without exception the connection must be to HDMI 1 unless you are doing something like running audio to a soundbar. If you haven't done this try it and come back here.
