Contract options and switching to stream

Hi all,

I am not far away from the end of my contract and facing a hike from 79 pounds to over 200 for the service I currently have with no real better options but to loose some of my services.

I watch and record a lot of sky and tnt content and wanted to know if the stream (flex) offering actually has any catch up options for these channels.

What are the options like generally for watching the content of other channels (soaps for my wifes point of view) generally?

Thanks in advance.

VM would be delighted if you paid the £200, but actually they will be expecting you to phone in and negotiate a new deal.

It will help if you can quote a competitive price from another supplier.

What are the options from Sky?  They also are moving to streaming only boxes.

Which Sky channel(s) in particular? Sky Sports has a lot less VoD than, say Sky Witness or Sky Crime.

£2400 a year!   Are they throwing in a Caribbean holiday?

  • Hello fizz,

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the price that you've been offered as part of your new deal. Like all providers, we offer introductory deals for new customers. When customers first join us, they benefit from these offers. After they expire, we always provide the best deal available for existing customers. To have your package reviewed, please give the team a call on 150 from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 opt 1, 4 and 4 again, this will get you through to the contracts team who will be able to look into this further for you.

    Kind Regards,

    Steven_L

Just to point out o Steven_l I have been a customer for over 25 years and therefore not had a new customer deal in a long time ... secondly to answer some of the above. Sky sports and tnt sports are my main watch.

The contracts now seem to be very expensive and to tailor one eveb more so. To get 1gb internet with two boxes with sky sports and tnt and a phone you need to be selecting top packages when actually do not need a top package for the tv I actually watch.

I have a spread sheet on the go comparing other offerings and the sky sports and tnt are the real sticking point for streaming services to be honest which is why I ask about flex with little to no information actually available.

Unfortunately sky stream does not offer what I need from other channels as you cannot select them for wishlist.

So to ask again does flex offer catchup on sky sports or tnt?

None of Virgin's current systems offer Wishlists, that is a TiVo patented feature so was only on the V6 and TiVo boxes, and is not available on the 360 or Stream.

In regards to the sports, I believe the Stream boxes from both VM and Sky are quite limited in what sports are available on demand, so if you're not watching live then probably not as good as a proper recording box. Possibly you could just look at subscriptions to NowTV, F1TV and\or Discovery+ on a streaming box? Depending on which sports you want to watch.

  • When you speak to customer services you just need to make sure you are clear between Stream the box which is now used for all TV packages and Flex the package.

In terms of catch up on the sports channels it depends on what you want. Virtually everything from Sky Sports is available for seven days. A very few exceptions such as Sky Sports Racing and the two part time UHD channels, albeit the latter's content is available in HD. TNT Sports has improved over the last few months and is now similar for the channels Virgin Media carry on the EPG. As long as you are purely looking at catch up, i.e. watching within a week, you should be covered.

Edit - I should have added that when comparing prices, the basic Flex package plus the sports channels does not include Sky Sports News or Sky Sports Mix, they are in the Essential Entertainment add on. If those are important to you make sure you add the cost of those in. Check, but I believe that the Mega TV on Virgin and the standard bundles from Sky include those channels.
