Packet loss

For some reason for the past couple of days I've been receiving upwards of 20% packet loss on my Xbox. Absolutely nothing has changed in my installation to have started causing this so I was wondering if there is a problem from the supply end?

Yep have added to it, this forum used to be more populated by customer services people at least having a go and not just pasting the usual response.

Either they've cut that back or its something they know about which is a major **bleep** up their end.

  • Same problem here! High ping and packet loss, some games drop some don’t. It’s not good at all! VM say they can see the constant dropouts and are sending an engineer Thursday evening, pubg update day 😨

Guys, please use my Twitter thread. ping VM - because it's more publicity and they react faster

  • Added to your Twitter thread but same issue here for all Microsoft services.  Connecting to Microsoft Teams results in break ups and drop outs, some Azure portals do not load and the Cloudflare speed test shows up to 15% packet loss.

Doesn't help the Virgin status page shows there arent any issues in the area (25), yet running a diagnostic test shows 'Looks like there are issues in your postcode affecting your services'.  Reloading the page goes back to say there aren't any issues in the area.

    /sigh

it is interesting that looks like PUBG on PC is on Amazon AWS. but still same problem persists

Interesting, I could see connections in Resource Monitor to AWS and Azure from PUBG. I was having trouble differentiating between core game and match servers.

We noticed that the main lobby/menu system etc uses AWS and the game server that you actually load into (that you play your match on) was hosted in Azure.

  • ModTeam have messaged me for information, which I've provided.

CoolNerdDude advises that issues with xCloud are being investigated https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Networking-and-WiFi/Virgin-Broadband-packet-loss/m-p/5439934#M567633

I had issues in work this morning with my Teams Meetings experiencing packet loss ~20%. Contacted Microsoft support who advised there was an issue with Virgin Media in London.

If anything, it seems a bit better this afternoon, still seeing some packet loss. Will test more later this evening.

  • ModTeam just messaged to report that the issue is fixed. I see CoolNerdDude reports a fix too.

Things are looking good to me.

Not seeing any dropped packets in my trace route, or in PUBG PC game metrics. Xbox connection test looks good too.

I replied back to the ModTeam too. PUBG (and other services) now seem fine. Not getting any high pings or warnings. Monitoring over time I do still see packet loss on hops 5+6 although it could just be the type of traffic that's being dropped.

      5 12 ms * 14 ms 213.105.11.198

      and

      6 * 15 ms 12 ms 207.46.219.212

Would be good if you could monitor it too 👍

I can see a small amount of packet loss between hops 6 to 10. Final hop, 13, isn't reporting any packet loss. As you say, it could be the type of traffic being dropped.

Jumping in game now, will leave the trace route running in the background. The issue has been apparent quickly in game over the weekend.
