Geforce Now on Gig1

Hi all,

I am currently between gaming computers so I have been trying to use Geforce Now on my Gig 1 connection but it hasn't been smooth sailing. It does work and I can stream my games at 120fps and 4K/HDR but I do get a lot of picture jumping regardless of wired or wireless.

I assume this is down to the DOCSIS style internet connection? Not sure if it makes it any better but it is fibre to the brown box outside my house and then Coax to the inside, I realise it is still DOCSIS but maybe doesn't get as much interference?

Anyway my ping to the servers is around 23ms before the game loads but that varies once the game has loaded. It will do a couple of minutes at a time sometimes and then it has a picture skip and although it says that I haven't dropped any frames there are red numbers next to the Packet loss counter. I'm thinking that there isn't really anything that I can do on my end other than put up with this due to the nature of the connection?

Thanks

  • Hi Yorkshirelion thanks for posting although we're sorry to hear of the concerns you've raised here.

We have looked into this for you and there are no issues on the line as things stand, we don't guarantee a packet loss unfortunately but everything does seem in specification regarding the speeds.

Is this now resolved for you?

    Many thanks

      Hi,

Thanks for checking, no I think that it just isn't something you can do by the nature of the connection. I have fibre to the brown box outside then coax in, I think that this sort of thing only works without issue on a full fibre connection.

I do have a question though if you don't mind, when my current contract expires in September I will be looking to move to a Full Fibre provider, what happens to the brown box on the outside of the house? I'm not sure if we would keep the TV services or not but it depends on whether another cable can come up alongside the Virgin one?

Thanks for coming back to us Yorkshirelion, the brown box would remain on your wall, we wouldn't send out an engineer to remove the brown box.

        Kind Regards,
