Unable to Delete Folders in VirginMedia Mail

My apologies if my previous attempt to post this message has ended up in another thread.

As I've had some difficulty with my ntlworld email address, I have changed to a gmail address to login to VirginMedia. I use Thunderbird to manage my 3 email addresses and have been transferring saved ntlworld emails from VirginMedia mail into the same folders in the new gmail account in T'Bird. Having emptied a folder I have wanted to delete it in Virginmedia mail; a few have been easy to delete but the majority can not be deleted because there are " insufficient permissions in your trash folder or this may be a special folder". All of the relevant folders have been created by me so the latter does not apply.

It's not a major issue, I just like to tidy up. I would be grateful for any advice.

  • I don't know if my issue is similarly related but I hope you can assist.

I am transferring emails from my VirginMedia email account to another email account in Thunderbird. No problem there but after I have emptied a folder I want to delete it. Some have been deleted easily but others can not be deleted because of "insufficient permissions in my trash folder". It's not a big issue but i like to tidy up and find this irritating. Can you help please?

If you are getting the error "Could not delete folder. This can be due to insufficient permissions in your trash folder or this might be a special folder that cannot be deleted" you could try the work around first posted here by VIP  @用心棒

Sadly their original post seems to have been archived but here is a copy of the instructions (in blue) and the relevant screen shots.

select a folder that cannot be deleted
select ☰ > Add new folder and then Save; default folder name is fine for purpose of workaround

select ☰ > Delete, to delete folder than previously could not be deleted, and Delete to confirm

select Trash, then ☰ > Empty trash and Empty folder to confirm

I hope that helps, if it does then any thanks should be directed to VIP 用心棒 rather than to me.
