Unable to access Virgin Media email through apps

Hope someone can help on this please.

I updated my VM password yesterday and cannot now access my email account through apps such such as Mail on my iPhone. I can access email though the VM website, so I know the new password is correct, but it isn't recognised by the Mail app etc.

I have seen reference online to requiring a specific 'mail app password' but cant find any means of generating such a password. Any assistance on resolving this would be appreciated.

    steve4180​ You need a different password to use with email apps.

    To create one or update an existing one you need to follow these steps:

    Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned with your VMO2ID
    Select Account Settings
    Select Identity & Security Settings
    Select Manage your products
    Select Manage email app password
    Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

    Make a note of the generated password.  This is what you use in the mail apps along with the vm email address as the username.

      Hi Graham, this worked for me and I’ve now got my .ntlworld.com emails working through my mail app on the iPhone - this is my primary email, but the secondary email account, which is a .virginmedia.com account is still not working, do I need a separate password for that and how do I generate one as I can’t seem to see how to do this using the steps you advised (just the primary)

        scientist66​ The secondary email account has its own VMO2ID and My VM account. You will need to sign out of the primary account and then sign into the virginmedia.com account and repeat the process to generate an email app password for that account.

    Just a thought, the main VM account is held in my wife's name. Might the 'Manage your products' option for my email address be available under her ID? She's not around until this evening, so I can't check until then.

      No it won't be under the main account.  Each email address has its own VMO2ID and My Virgin Media account.  When you created the new VMO2ID did you click on the button to link it to your VM account or did you skip that part?

        That worked.  Got there in the end and it seems to be all OK now.
