Temporarily blacklisted IP Address

My Ntlworld email stopped arriving. At the same time my wife's email stopped. Both said that the passwords were invalid.  We changed our passwords - my wife had to move to a VMo2 ID. We generated APP passwords and put them in - no change.

I rang help desk in India - they said that the problem is that they do not support NTLWORLD addresses any more. I said that was amazing and asked for it to be escalated. The assistant arranged for me to to be called by his supervisor the following day (Sunday) at 9 to 9:30.

Then I noticed on my Macbook i had a different message - Temporary blacklisted IP Address. I checked on this forum and found that I could access my mail by using my iPhone as a hotspot and it worked. I could also access the email via the browser.

No supervisor rang between 9 and 9:30, so I rang at 10, to find it hasn't been escalated. I was asked to clear browser cache/ reboot the router etc. etc. I then asked to be escalated to their supervisor, who again said they could not help as support has been dropped for NTLWORLD Addresses. He said they had been told that the domain had been turned off and this means that no emails will get through any more.

I filled in a security report and forwarded it to the VM security team. I want to know what the "suspicious activity" was and asked that they lift the blacklist. This is the third time this has happened admittedly the last time was two years ago, when my solicitor sent me a message that was encrypted internally.

  • Hi paulkassell

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Sorry to hear of the email issues. If you have an active Virgin Media account with your email listed on this, we do support it, so apologies if that is the case and you've been told otherwise. I'll send you a PM now to help.

    Best wishes.

      Just an update.

Having been told my NTLWORLD is no longer supported, I have only just noticed that they sent me a pre contract document (with an increase in price), although at no stage was this mentioned on the phone. I was on a fixed price until March 2026.

The odd thing is they sent this to my NTLWORLD address, even though this is not supported. When I tried to ring tonight to clear this up. I am surprised to find out that I no longer have an account with VirginMedia according to the telephone (no longer recognises the number) and no longer recognise my account on the service status page. Without an account, I cannot query the new contract that they sent me.

This morning we had 10 minutes service before I was blacklisted again.

i received instructions from security to reboot my router, change all my app generated passwords delete my accounts and re set them up with the new passwords - check all ports. They seem to just recite this by rote. When I said this did not work, they told me to dial 150, who will tell me that the NTLWORLD email is no longer supported.

For a while I could get service using my phone as a hotspot. Now even using that it now tells me the password on my iPhone and Mac are now invalid - having just created them and verified ok 12 hours earlier.

Really, really, really FRUSTRATED with this service. VIRGINMEDIA and O2 really just do not value their customers.

Hi harmeetmatharu thanks for posting although I'm sorry to hear of your issues with email.

Can you confirm firstly please if you're able to access the email using a non Virgin Media connection, and if you've created a Virgin Media O2 single-sign on ID?

        Many thanks

  • Since yesterday, I have been having this exact same problem. “Ip address temporarily blacklisted”

has anybody found a solution yet? Or even an explanation for what is actually happening?

I suspect it's the "smart" AI suspicious behaviour analytics being overly zealous.

I had exactly the same issue, my account was blacklisted then support tried to tell me that NTLWORLD email addresses weren't supported, I did this via chat so have the transcript - someone needs to do some frontline training of their staff!

  • Loads are having the same issue. Reboot the router haha *facepalm*
