Still missing mail from the June 2023 outage.

Appealing for any help or advise.

I was affected by the mail outage in June 2023 and have recently realized that emails from an alias account I set up ([REMOVED]blueyonder.co.uk) are missing. I have been a loyal Virgin customer for many years (NTL/Blueyonder/Virgin), and while most of my emails were restored, the emails from this alias account are still missing.

I had two email accounts:

  1. [REMOVED]blueyonder.co.uk

  2. [REMOVED]blueyonder.co.uk (alias account)

The second account was rarely used but important for LinkedIn and a few online software purchases (to retrieve license keys). I need access to this account to recover old emails and reactivate my LinkedIn account, which has been locked.

Any idea which department i can contact at virgin about this?
I dread talking to their first line support who will no doubt ask me to restart my router or check back in 48 hours to get rid of me.

Unlikely to be able to get them back after this time.

Everybody should not rely on email as a place to keep sensitive information, you should always download it into files on your local machine and also make sure these are backed up elsewhere, either on the cloud and/or a NAS.

And yet so many people think that email is a free filing system where they can keep documents stored for years or decades.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

  • Hiya, BTW the fred blogs email address was  a made up email name, so no personal info shared there, so no problem.
yes, i have learned my lesson after the VM email outage and now any important info, such as software licence keys goes in to my password safe.
I'm not expecting a 'free filing system' or in deed a free lunch but i take your point.

That said the mail restore from VM was drip fed, and in my case - incomplete.

  • I guess i need to log it with virgin media support  and see what happens, I'm still paying over £70 a month for this 'service' and the email outage in 2023 was virgin media's fault, not mine.

Hi there Roland_Echo 👋 Welcome to our forum and thanks for your post 😊

Sorry to see that you're still missing emails after this outage. If you still don't have all your emails back, unfortunately at this stage there's nothing we'd be able to do to restore these. As Emails are a value added service, these wouldn't be covered in your £70 a month package price.

      Regards

      Nathan
