Server error: '453 4.1.1 Too many recipients using Outlook.

Help!!! I have spent hours on the phone to VM and also to Gadget Recue who VM suggested I signed up to for £9.99 a week. Those hours have been a waste of time and I am feeling it may be time to ditch my VM account having been with NTL and now VM for perhaps 20 years.

Last week, I suddenly I couldn't send email from my Outlook account (on either PC or my phone). VM Webmail worked fine. The gadget rescue person suggested my IP had been blocked and he switched me to using a VPN which got round the issue for a few days. Now, I can't send emails to more than 1 person from Outlook on my PC or my phone. If there is more than 1 addressee, then the email gets stuck in my outbox. I get:

Server error: '453 4.1.1 Too Many Recipients (VM502)

How do I fix this please?

Keith

The error code VM502 would suggest Virgin Media's limit for number of sent messages has been exceeded; read more here, How to send an email | Virgin Media Help under What is virgin media’s email sending limits.

That's fair enough BUT, I Chair a Camera Club and sent 2 emails yesterday to about 60 people and then got the error message. Its rediculous I am being locked out for such a trivial number of emails.

The limit varies depending on sending environment. AFAIK the order from higher limits to lower is:

    • webmail using Virgin Media's network
    • email client (like Thunderbird or similar) using Virgin Media's network
    • webmail not using Virgin Media's network
    • email client not using Virgin Media's network

NB further limiting restriction apply depending on where non-Virgin Media network is located in the World

Are you experiencing this issue when sending via the first two option listed above?

Not sure why the issue is occurring then having only sent to 120 recipients.

        Hi Mastersnapper 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Apologies for the issues that you are having with your emails. I am afraid we cannot speak on behalf of Outlook, it would be a conversation to have with them. It does appear from what you have said they have a limitation on the amount of recipients you can have contained in one email before it does get regarded as spam.

        Many thanks.
