Not receiving some emails

I have an old ntlworld email address that is now hosted by Virgin. For some reason some of my emails are not coming through. I am receiving most of them but some of my contacts are finding that their messages to me are bouncing back with a message saying "Address not found. Your message wasn't delivered because the address couldn't me found or is unable to receive email."
The email address has been triple checked and is definitely correct. The person sending the messages is in my contacts. There is nothing in my spam. Any ideas what the problem could be?

If it is only some of your contacts getting that error it does strongly suggest that the email address they are using in the "to"  address of these emails is incorrect.

One thing I would try would be to send a test email from your Ntlworld account to the affected contacts asking them to use the "reply" function in their email account to respond and confirm that they have received your email.

If they use the "reply" function, their return emails will use your correct email address taken from the email you sent to them and not the email address that is saved their contacts list.  If you receive their confirmation replies that strongly suggests that in their previous emails they have been using an incorrect address for you.

I know that the address has been tripled checked but it's surprising how easy it is to miss typos, using a "o" instead of an "0" for instance.

Just one other important point. I see that you say "I have an old ntlworld email address that is now hosted by Virgin" which makes me wonder whether you still have a VM broadband account.

You need to be aware that if your Ntlworld email account is not linked to a live VM broadband account it is at grave risk of being deleted by VM.

VM are now actively working through and deleting these, so called, orphaned VM email accounts . That applies to all VM domains, so, Blueyonder.co.uk, Virgin.net and Virginmedia.com as well as Ntlworld.com accounts.

If you can still send emails from you Ntlworld account that has not happened yet but I'm sorry to say if the account is no longer linked to a live VM broadband account it is only a matter of time before you lose access to this old email account.

  • Thanks @coenoby. The email address really was correct. I had the missed emails forwarded to me so I could double check. Not sure what happened.
I'll definitely check out the status of my email account and see if it's at risk of deletion. Thanks for the heads up.

Good to hear it's ok now.

It is worrying though because the error they were seeing normally means the email account no longer exists.

If you don't have a VM BroadBand account you do need to switch to a new non VM email account.

The emails just suddenly started to come back into my account. I have no idea what the problem was. Today my email has stopped working altogether. I'm not able to send or receive. According to Virgin Media my account has been locked. I've followed the advice to unlock it but each password I try and enter is rejected and I keep getting a message saying the password has been rejected and I need to try a different one.

You really must get set up with email from another provider as @coenoby has advised.  Your old email IS going to disappear very soon, if it has not already done so.

Yes you are right. I am going to do exactly that. But I do need to access my emails in the meantime!
