Not receiving emails from groups.io

Since sometime yesterday (19 Sept) I have stopped receiving all emails from all the groups on groups.io I subscribe to.

Some posts appear in Bounces on my account on groups.io  e.g.

mxin10.virginmedia.com: 421 mx1-prd-nl1-vmo.edge.unified.services mx1-prd-nl1-vmo.edge.unified.services MXIN107 Connections from your IP 66.175.222.108 have been disallowed by admin policy. ;id=ix4JqAZVrJymN;sid=ix4JqAZVrJymN;mta=mx1-prd-nl1-vmo;d=20230920;t=151639[CET];ipsrc=66.175.222.108;

Does this mean Virgin Media is blocking emails from groups.io in error and how do I get them to stop blocking them? The messages are not being blocked by other mail providers apparently.

Thanks!

  • Hello everyone. It's me again 🙂

The team have advised they are attempting a temporary fix at their side today to see if this resolves the issue and will monitor this further.

Please do let me know if this fix has worked for you or if you're still seeing the 'IP exceeded' error and I'll feed this back to the team.

    Hi all

Still not receiving Emails from Groups IO, Showing blocked on the IO mainpage

  • Im having issues, all as above😠, did wonder why i had a quite day with football emails! 😂

i can see the emails being bounced in the IO portal and in my phone, i however cannot receive them via my virginmedia email address that is associated with it so this is a VM issue not a user or IO issue, so VM need to fix this ASAP with your filters/spam software etc.

Is it too late to revive this thread? I was experiencing this issue in September 2023 and in the past few days it's started again. Mails are getting to groups.io but are not been sent to my ntlworld.com address. I've had one 'Mail Failure' and several with no reports. The failure had the message:

        host lb01.groups.io [45.79.81.153]
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<groupnamr@groups.io>:
500 Invalid request, no reverse DNS for 84.116.50.34

        Any clues?

        Thanks

  • I subscribe to several groups.io email groups.  Some of the messages are sent to a gmail address and some to a Blueyonder address. Those to the gmail address are still arriving; those to the Blueyonder address have not for a week. I am sure this has previously happened with Virgin Media some years ago. Along with the problem of no email service a couple of months ago, the reluctance by Virgin Media staff to resolve the latest debacle is more than disappointing.  The concensus from the emails that reached my gmail account was that groups.io members should change from Virgin Media.

No Virgin Media customer on this community site is able to offer a solution to this well documented  problem. It rquires Virgin Media themselves to fix the problem. We have been suffering with lack of posts from groups.io for about a week now.  Since raising a ticket with Virgin Media I have not been contacted. Please Virgin Media sort this out.

  • I too have had no emails from my group but what im dissapointed in is the response from virgin surely they must at least look at this community and notice whats going on? has anybody got any idea how to fix this problem?

All seems ok again touch wood, thanks for everyone's input

  • I have had no bounces since 8.52am this morning (28 Sept) and no unsuccessful attempts at delivery since 10.51am this morning. All these had the message "Hourly ratelimit for your IP exceeded". So I am hopeful the problem is fixed.

However, the initial problem arose ten days ago (!) with groups.io messages being unsuccessful then bounced with this message "Connections from your IP 66.175.222.108 have been disallowed by admin policy". This presumably caused messages to be continually resent by groups.io?  Do you know what caused the original problem Carley?

Thanks Alpen DX for getting the ball rolling, I think this issue has happened once before and took time to sort out. All seems ok here now

The problem with not receiving groups.io messages seems to be solved but I have noticed an occasional problem when sending messages to groups.io. On a couple of occasions when I have replied to a message on a groups.io I have received back from postmaster@virginmedia.com an email to say my reply could not be delivered. The message from   postmaster@virginmedia.com tonight said: 500 Invalid request, no reverse DNS for 84.116.50.37

  • The problem where emails failed to be delivered ti groups.io has only happened to me three times. I still have a copy of one mail delivery email. I have  deleted the others. For the last couple of days I have not sent any emails to groups.io so I have no further information for you. I did however find another thread in this community titled “no reverse DNS” by someone with a bluyonder email address also having similar problems sending emails to groups.io. There is a lot of information in that thread which might help you to get this problem fixed.

  • Some emails (but not all) emails from groups.io groups I belong to are bouncing again. I have an ntlworld.com email address. All the bounced messages have the "Hourly ratelimit for your IP exceeded message". Yet other messages I receive no problem. In the screenshot below, delivery of Digest 14 was attempted numerous times over 2-3 days and now has Bounced status. Yet other Digests (e.g Digest 13, 15 and 16) from the same io-group were received no problem. But again Digest 17 is being bounced this morning??

      Hi AlpenDX,

Thank you for expanding. I'm going to send you a private message in a few moments so that we can take some further details. Please respond to this when you can and we'll proceed from there.

      Thanks,

        Hi Zach
i have just been notified by groups.io that I am also having a problem of messages to my NTLworld email address bouncing with message "Hourly ratelimit for your IP exceeded".
Can you help me to solve this please?
        John

  • Also happening to me.  It looks as though it was once back in September 2023 and several times since mid-February.

Reading around this, it looks as though this issue was first raised with VM back in September and a solution was put in place whitelisting some ip addresses starting 66.  From February, my bounced messages are from 45.79.227.220 as are Mr Martin's reported on Tuesday.  The solution may be as simple as VM whitelisting this, too.

This hs happened as you say previously and they put in a temp solution that worked but obviously affecting many users, even Unbouncing in IOGROUPS does not work, Same error as previously
