A key question is whether you are already using a VM mail app password (it will be in "word-word-word-word" format to use in the iPhone's email app account settings or are you still using the old free text style password?
If not then you need to generate one before going any further:
- Sign in to My Virgin Media from here https://www.virginmedia.com using the email address and current password.
- Click on Account settings
- Then on Virgin Media Mail settings
- Scroll down to the App password section and click on Generate App password.
- You will get a pop up message asking you to verify yourself.
- If you've already set up your Virgin Media account with a 3rd party (non VM) email address then VM will send a one time passcode to enter on the next page
- If you have not previously specified a non VM email address, you will be prompted to do that. So you will need to have a non VM email address which will become your VM account username.
- Once verified you will then get a mail app password which will be in the format “word-word-word-word". You will need to copy that and edit your iPhone email settings to use that new password,
If you have not previously gone through that process than using the mail app password in the iPhone mail app may well solve your problem.
If it does not solve the problem then it would be useful if you could post:
- if it is just receiving emails that's the problem or are you unable to send emails either?
- are you able to send and receive emails via VM's Webmail service? (You can sign in here https://mail2.virginmedia.com/ The reason I ask that is because it will help determine whether the problem is with the VM account itself or just with the app's access to the mail account.
