No option to create email app password

My daughter wants to access her Blueyonder emails on her iPad. Her email was originally set up as a secondary account to mine but I know that the way you have to access email has changed (not, in many peoples opinions for the better!) so I dutifully logged into my account as her and changed her username to be a different email address to her Blueyonder one. OK, I thought, that's phase 1 completed.

Then I went to generate an email app password after logging in using the new credentials but there is no option to do that! I've done it successfully for my wife's and my own email accounts so I know where to look and what it should look like, it just isn't there when I log in as my daughter.

Any advice please?

Cheers, JMP

  • Thanks both,

I would have replied earlier but the notifications of your replies were going into my spam!

However, I got a phone call from my daughter yesterday to say that she had logged into the account again and the option to generate an app password had magically appeared!

Not sure whether it just took a while for the servers to update the account section after changing the login address or what but it is working now.

One other thing though. Today I received an email to one of the non-VM addresses that I use to log in to my account saying that from 30-06-2025 we have to 'go back' to logging in using our VM email addresses! Is this true and what on earth is all that about!!

Thanks again to both of you for your attention and support.  JMP

    Hi Coenoby,

Yes, I have changed the account to have a non VM account as the username. I know what you mean and I too have another account that hasn't been changed yet but my other daughter isn't having any issues so it's a case of 'if it ain't broke. . '

jmp1963 "Yes, I have changed the account to have a non VM account as the username"

      Thanks for clarifying that.

In that case, it will need action from VM to resolve the problem of why the Mail app option is missing from the My Virgin Media account.

One of the Forum Team (VM staff) who support this forum will contact you via this thread, hopefully tomorrow.

I will keep an eye here because I am intrigued as to what is causing this.

jmp1963  "I went to generate an email app password after logging in using the new credentials but there is no option to do that!"

Apologies but just to clarify: so you are logging into the My Virgin Media account for this VM email account with the non VM email address that you have set as the username for that VM account?

The reason I ask that is that when other posters have reported that the "Manage your Virgin Media Mail app password" option was missing it seemed that they had not previously gone through the process of setting a non VM email account as the username for that VM email account. As soon as they completed the process of specifying a non VM username  the "Mail app password" option appeared.

I still have one VM email account that does not have a non VM email account as its username and that VM account does not have the "Manage app password" option.
