The first question is whether you are still a VM broadband customer? If not then it could be very problematic for you. See here https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/email-account-closure
If you are still a VM broadband customer, the second question is whether you have gone through the process to create a VM02 ID for this Ntlworld.com account?
" tried to log into my virgin media but it says email not recognised??"
That suggests either:
- that you are no longer a VM customer
- but if you are, have set a non VM email account (such as Gmail or Yahoo) to link with your Ntlworld account? In that case you may need to enter that non VM email address as the username when you log in to your Ntlworld accout.

I don't no - I have tried to log into virgin media and it says email not recognised

NikkiA1 "I don't no "
If that's a "no" to having a VM broadband contract then you won't be able to change the password. The only option you have is to have this old email account deleted by VM.
The Forum Team (VM staff) can arrange that for you. One of them will contact you via this forum thread, probably tomorrow.
"it says email not recognised "
The usual error message is "This Virgin Media email address isn’t valid" but the error you are getting suggests that the old ntlworld.com email account may well have already been deleted by VM as per their advice in the "....email account closure" link I gave in my first post.
VM stopped issuing new email accounts way back in May 2022 and they are actively deleting VM email accounts that are not linked to a live VM broadband contract.

You'll have to wait for a VM person to pick this up. There isn't much that other users can do to help in a case like this.

NikkiA1 " I am no longer a VM customer"
In that case, if you have not already done so, you need to read this announcement from Virgin Media that I gave in the first post on this thread:
The background is that VM stopped issuing new email accounts over 3 years ago and as you can see in that message, they are now actively closing down VM email accounts that are no longer liked to a live VM broadband contract. As a result the whole future of the VM email service is unclear.
Based on previous experience of ex VM customers on this forum I'm sorry to say that VM staff will not be able to reset the password for you.
If you are no longer a paying customer, all VM staff can do is to get this hacked email account deleted to stop the hackers from using it.
If you still have access to the account I would urge you to download any emails, documents and contact details from your account and set up a new email account with a dedicated email provider.
Here are some options https://www.lifewire.com/best-free-email-accounts-1356641
Sorry to the bearer of bad news.
