Mail apps no longer working

At the moment I can only log in to my emails via the website, but my mail app (iphone & ipad) no longer work. I changed my password (twice) but no use. I called VM for help last night but they only said 'there's outages in your area - so it will fix itself'. I know that's not the case because I can still log on via a PC. This is a mail app specific issue. Virgin Media... What's going on with mail apps no longer working?

  • craiguitar In order to access your email via Mail apps you need to use an email app password.  To create one or update an existing one you need to follow these steps:

Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned with your VMO2ID
    Select Account Settings
    Select Identity & Security Settings
    Select Manage your products
    Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

Make a note of the generated password.  This is what you use in the mail apps along with the vm email address as the username.

Indeed! Shame Virgin Media couldn't give me that information when I called them. All they could say was that there was an 'outage' in my area. I assumed it was a fob-off at the time, and that proved to be correct. As for the solution/method you graciously advised, I can't help but think that should be made blatantly obvious to customers by VM rather than it being hidden as it seemingly is. Their job is to make it easy for us as customers.

  • Thank you for posting this solution, much appreciated, I should have looked at this site first instead of wasting a large part of my morning trying to find help on the Virgin Media site.  I have now managed to get my email addresses working on my iPad and iPhone.  I guess I will have to go through it all again on desktop computers but that can wait until tomorrow.  Absolutely disgraceful that Virgin Media didn’t warn people and send out advice on how to deal with the situation.

    Thanks again.

  • not working for me on iPad or iPhone - generated a new password and than got Outlook (POP3 server) working, but same password fails in iMAP server used with the Apple Mail app...

      Hello fish65,

Welcome back to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your online account and email.

The issues that we've had over the last few days have seemingly been resolved however there could be issues with individual accounts. Have you been able to get your issues resolved or do you still require assistance?

      Kind Regards,

      Steven_L

    Thankyou

    What a cluster f..k of a change

Clearly Virgin wants to stop us using VM email

Problem for VM is that it was the hassle of changing to a mainstream email provider that keeps me paying nearly 100gbp a month for 100mb broadband and 200+ TV channels

Still only fibre to the cabinet in suburbs of Portsmouth

SFR in our holiday home in very rural France just informed me that they are giving me free upgrade to 1gb broadband fibre to the house and that's alongside 900 TV channels all for less than 50 euro a month and no in contract rises

With so many streaming providers now VM is killing the goose that lays the golden egg

Just given me the incentive to get all my logins changed to a generic email service and ready to say goodbye to VM
