Longer Router Cable

I need to re-position my Router/Hub but the supplied cable is not long enough. Do VM supply a longer cable that I can purchase? The existing cable is not even 1m and just about allows the router to be sat on my desk; I need to move it to the other side of my small study so looking for roughly 6 - 8ft (2 - 2.5 metre)

  • Hi Thestid

Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear your current cabling isn't long enough for your needs.

The longest cable we can send out is 15 meters long. Please do let us know if you'd like us to order this for you and we can do that. There's no charge for this.

    Thanks,

I believe the longest cable is 3Mtrs.  Ring and request one, or wait here a day or two for a VM Mod to pick this up and discuss.

Really, Beth_G  - a 15m co-ax connector cable can be sent out by VM?    What happened to "balancing power levels" over longer cables etc ?

Or is that not just an ethernet cable?

I (and Adduxi I believe) had assumed the OP wants a longer co-ax cable!

      Hi Beth,

As John, below, rightly surmised it is not an ethernet cable I need, but co-axial. 15m is much more than I need, but if it is possible to send me a 2m co-ax cable it would be appreciated.

        Hi Thestid,

        Apologies for the mis-understanding there.

We wouldn't be able to send a coaxial cable however we can arrange for an engineer to come out for you. They will be able to install the cable for you and check the signal and power levels at the same time to ensure they are optimal. I just need to confirm the address to ensure we are booking the visit on the correct account. I have sent you a direct message to allow us to do this with you in a private space. If you are using a PC/Laptop then you can just click on the little ✉ at the top right-hand side of the page to access your inbox. If you are on a mobile/tablet device then instead click on the little circle icon in the top right then select 'Messages'. 😊

        Thanks,

Hi there, I have this issue as well. Moving the router is a must as it is in an awkward place and the cable is just 1 meter long. Can Virgin media send me a 5m cable please? Loyal VM customer. Thanks

Alex, there are some very confusing posts in this old thread.

The correct situation, as confirmed in more recent cases, is that if you can make do with a 3m extension they will send you one for free.  If you need a greater length, you can arrange a technician visit to fit whatever you need for a fixed charge of £25.

You are more likely to get a response from VM staff here, if you start your own thread.
