There are no such things as "primary" and "secondary" mailboxes (email addresses). That was done away with months ago. Every mailbox is now a separate entity and is accessed via it's own VMO2ID account. Have you created these account for each mailbox?

They have sorta tried to do that... to take away the difference between primary and secondary... but... if I log in to the My Virgin Media app on my phone with what I call a secondary account I get a message at the top saying "As you've logged in as a secondary account holder your access to account information will be limited."

Yes that's normal. It is referring more to the specific details of you VM package, details of your monthly VM bills etc.
If you want to reset the account password for the email account it's easier to do that by signing into the My Virgin Media Account (MVA) for this "secondary" email account via a browser rather than the VM app. From memory I think the app forces you to that anyway, but I could be wrong there.
Once you've signed into the MVA using a browser:
1) To generate a new Mail App Password to use in email apps and clients such as Outlook
Select Account Settings
Select Identity & Security Settings
Select Manage your products
Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'2) To reset the Password for accessing the VM webmail account
Select Account Settings
Select Identity & Security Settings
Then select Security Settings (rather than Identity settings)
Under "Authentication Methods" Select Password which allows you set a new password.Coenoby
