Issues with Apple Mail again

Hello, without any warning I am having problems with apple mail . I have tried changing the app password.   On my Macpro I still cannot receive or send messages. On my iphone I am receiving now but can't send.

This occurred before some months ago and took some resolving. I had not made any changes prior to this issue other than upgrade software on the iphone. That I don't think would affect the mail account of both devices.  Can you please investigate. When these issues occurred before you (Virginmedia community staff)  discovered that I had been blacklisted for some reason. Can you check out please and advise how I can solve the issue.

thank you

Ray

Update: -  I have eventually got the mail app on my i phone working, having changed the app password a couple of times and checking and changing account details until something clicked and worked. There were a few glitches before it worked correctly, i.e receiving and not sending.

However, I have been unable to get the mail app working on the MacPro using the same account input and password.

Just a thought, ( unlikely as the iphone is now working ) but when you change the app password do you also change that in the Virgin Webmail account settings ?

You would only need to use the app password in VM webmail for additional VM email addresses that you access via another VM webmail account.  Webmail acts as an email client for additional email accounts.

Well not sure what was happening but after several hours after getting my phone receiving and sending emails I tried once again to try setting up apple mail onto my mac pro and this time it accepted my input and all working now.  Why on earth this occurs from time to time I just do not know.

I would suggest you move away from VM email, in fact any email tied to an ISP.   It seems to be getting worse over the last few years.  The fact no new users get email for at least two years now only points in one direction?

What would you suggest, any recommendations?    Obviously I have a Google account but hardly ever use it.

Why do use Apple Mail as your primary mail account and just redirect all the VM mail to this account. Did this years ago.

Hi, I think thats what I do. Apple mail is where I go to find my mail that has been directed to it from VM.  I have a ntlworld.com address ( which is one of the old Virginmedia companies they took over )  Are you stating that I use a different email address not orientating from VM ?   I can do that but of course it involves having to inform all my previous contacts of the change.

Yes, that's exactly what Tudor is suggesting.

VM stopped issuing new email accounts back in 2022. Since then new customers joining VM have not had the option to use  VM email accounts so clearly email is not a major part of VM's business plan going forward.

VM still support Ntlworld, Blueyonder and Virginmedia email accounts as long as they are still linked to a live VM broadband account. I think you have a VM broadband account but if/when you decide to switch to another provider VM will delete all your existing VM email accounts after 90 days. They are becoming quite strict with that now and are actively closing down old VM email accounts that are no longer linked to live broadband accounts,

Scroll up to the top of this Email forum and check out the Pinned Discussion past "Some important information if you have a Virgin Media email account" for details about this.

Here's the link to that post if you cannot find it but you'll have to copy and paste this into your browser to go straight to it

Switching to a more reliable and better supported email service will result in some extra work in the short term but is definitely the better option long term.
