I have been unable to access my blueyonder account

I have been unable to access my blueyonder email account for the past 2 days and I understand others are having the same issue with thier historic ntl, virginmail and blueyonder accounts too. I get the same annoying message...... "Ooops You can't do that right now.We couldn’t sign you in just now. Don’t worry — it’s just a quick pause to help keep your account safe". I have tried everything, changing my password, rebooting, etc etc etc and still can't get access either by my lap top, my wife's lap top or the family PC. I can get access via my mobile but I use my email extensively on my Chromebook and am currently awaiting important information from a solicitor which involves lots of attachments and legal forms. I was forced just over a year ago to use my gmail address  for my log in after I was told my blueyonder email address would no longer take vital security updates. I need access PDQ and would be grateful for help also!

  • Well,well,well!

Please see above for all activity to date. This morning I try to log in and had a whole new log in format page (post ''My Virginmedia log in page). My 'new' log in temporary password worked to get me that far and then asked me to change it, so I did. I then had 3 failed attempts to log in to my blueyonder email account, via my gmail account password details (or so it told me) despite having done exactly what it told me to do. I left it 2 hours and tried again. Same result. I left it again until later this evening and realised it was a new log in site incorporating 'VirginmediaO2' log in domain. It carried on asking me to log in (which I did with my new password) and asking me to link my O2 mobile account (which I don't have) so I said 'later' on the 'link my O2' page. It took me straight to my blueyonder email account and (touch wood) continues to work as we speak! Please don't ask me to explain things in too much more detail as I am no IT wizard but I did take screen shots of the pages that I encountered.

I wonder how much of this is coincidence after my complaint to VM, lengthy phone call to thier IT department, my visit to Currys where I spoke with the great guy from Google (and ex VM member of staff) who couldn't fix it but suggested I wait just a little longer to see if it sorted itself! Happy to recieve PM's from anyone wanting to know my full trail to eventual success (boring as hell but may work for others).

Gonna post this as a Solution only because it worked for me!

    Thanks to you all.

Gazzacom"Ooops You can't do that right now.....".

I would try to resolve that by

    1) deleting all the VM cookies from your existing browser.

Some browsers don't allow you to be selective so you may have to delete all cookies stored in the browser.

    2) Then close the browser down, you can even go as far as restarting your device.

    3) Then reopen the browser and try to sign in again.

All I can say is that works for me.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this didn't work for me but thanks anyway.

Anyone else had any success without VM intervention?

Tell your solicitor - and all your other contacts - to use your Gmail account instead.

The VM email service is getting worse year by year, and it's pretty clear now that they want to get rid of it. You are only hurting yourself by clinging on to a dying service.

You are right but I am one who would prefer that people (in this case VM) were open and honest about intentions and so I will continue to mount my crusade and give them another call! Thanks for your input.

Had a lengthy online discussion with Customer Support on 'Web Messaging' after initial chat with 'bot'.

We went through all the usual security questions and all the possible fixes (mentioned by everyone here so far) without any success. Eventually an IT log has been created and I have been told.......

"This will be resolved within 5-7 business days, or as quickly as possible. You will be able to login after 5-7 days"..

and that I can attempt to log in after 5 days or if I get an SMS to say it has been resolved.

Why not an email I wonder? Perhaps just wishful thinking!!!

Watch this space guys and thanks again to everyone for your time, suggestions and kindness.

    UPDATE..........

SAT 12/07/25. AM. Spent an hour on the phone with Virginmedia IT late morning. Long story short.........

My Chromebook has no further updates, is outdated now and so cannot access my blueyonder email account. It was suggested I buy a new Chromebook which will enable me to recieve updates and thereby gain me access to my blueyonder email account.

I told him I cannot access my blueyonder account through my wife's Chromebook which is still in date with update for the next 7 years! He doesn't know why!

I was asked to attempt log in on my home PC laptop with a temporary password from them. I did so and this worked and so I can get my blueyonder email through Virginmedia on my PC laptop and my mobile phone. I should keep this temp password for at least 24 hours then change it.

I was told, as my Chromebook is out of date I should contact VM Gadget Recovery Team who will be able to help and gain me access to my blueyonder a/c once more. (Take a look at the premium rate number and the one off £60 fee and further charges if it isn't a VM sponsored item!).

    SUN 13/07/25. AM.

Just got back from Currys as I was about to look at a new Chromebook. The guy I saw was excellent (he currently works for Google and previously worked for ......Virginmedia!) and spent ages listening to my account of what had transpired so far and asked me loads of questions and tried loads of different things even including his own state of the art Chromebook which I couldn't log in on as it still gave me the same "oops you can't do that right now........." which he was dumbfounded by. He said I should be able to log in on any device that was receiving in date updates including my wife's Chromebook and he cannot understand why his wouldn't allow me to do so. He suggested I leave it for 2 more days as in his experience sometimes these types of things righted themselves after a week!

        Hi SamJB13.

        Apologies for the late reply.

Yes I am still using my gmail username to log in and it then goes straight to my blueyonder account as it did before.

        ATB.
