How can I stop emails going to spam?

Emails from some senders such as Tesco and ZOE (healthy advice) always go to spam. If I mark them as not spam they are moved to my inbox but then are returned to Spam. I've tried adding the sender addresses to Contacts but still they get sent to Spam. This is really annoying. How can I stop it?

(Also my password reset email from the community went to Spam!)

  • Hi tractor_boy,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're sorry to hear you're having issues with these mails being marked as spam.

Are you using webmail directly or using a client/app? When logging in to webmail directly, you can add the email addresses to a safe sender list. You can find more help relating to email here.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

    Thanks,

      Kath,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know about it because the notification went to spam!

      I am using webmail.

How do I set up safe senders? There seems to be no mention in the link you supplied.

Sorry to see that this is still ongoing. You would need to add the email address to the address book on webmail and its then classed as a safe sender. The emails will then stop going to spam. The instructions for this are on the link provided by Kath.

      Regards

      Nathan

    On our wavelength

There is nothing about safe sender in Kath's link.

I am getting v.frustrated by Virgin consistently chucking emails from regular correspondents into Spam - and those correspondents ARE in my webmail address book.

My emails are delivered to my laptop, but I have to go online every day to move emails (from the same correspondents) out of the online Spam folder. Does Virgin's webmail have amnesia ??!!

In email settings (gearcog right hand top) the options for spam settings can be set to  flag as spam but deliver to  inbox, which what I do to avoid emails going to spam.

Only emails tagged as spam should normally go to  the spam folder.

I do place emails in spam myself which gives protection by lining out links in the email so they can be viewed safely. Usually they are deleted in approx 30 days.

However recently I have noticed my spam folder is empty which means spam is deleted sooner than 30 days so can be lost.

It is common for emails to go to spam even though they are not spam, often happens to me and also happens  with other email providers, and will be deleted after a number of days so wise to regular check spam folders.

Some emails can be spoofed to look as if they are from a real company but may be phishing.

I use email filters and they have not been working properly the last few days so had to check my filters and squencing of filters which can often trip up.

There is one solutuion, to use filters to identify an email from say Tesco and move it to a folder called Tesco, I have many folders set up to receive genuine emails so they do not go to the inbox or spam folder but to a named folder I have created in my folders or sub folders of archive.

In some cases of spam email that could be dangerous to the system Virgin will take measures to protect their  servers from such emails by blocking them or tagging as spam.

Email may be blocked from some senders and may not get through, so best to test out that they do arrive when sent. In some cases emails may have spam content identified which is picked up automatically by the spam filters. Emails that go to spam can be put back to the inbox or a folder if you decide to keep them.

Some emails may be dangerous even though they have got through to the inbox as clever spammers can make their emails look authentic by using gmail, outlook etc.

Forwarding of any spam or infected emails can be another issue and can cause issues to the recipient email/ third pary email which might block or tag as spam in some cases, so they do not always arrive with forwarding to the inbox.

I now avoid forwarding as it can be difficult to manage.

Important emails can be missed  if they do go to spam.

As emails can be lost after 30 days, it is wise to avoid if possible putting emails into the spam folder unless you want rid of them so select in setting what happens with spam, if a genuine email goes to spam it may be lost/deleted after a period.
