Emails not received from Domain forward

Just joined this community, so a big hello to everyone.

I have just moved my Domain to Go Daddy and have set up forwarding to my Virgin Media email.  The issue is that some emails are not being forwarded and some are. I have spoken with Go Daddy support and they have suggested that the issue may be to do with emails that are automatically generated e.g.  a Microsoft email to reset password or more generally Groupon emails.  Emails that are generated normally e.g. when I send an email from my work account to my domain email address, come through fine.  They have sent me examples of the code that is generated when an email is 'deferred' (rejected) so I have some tangible evidence to help VM Support if needed (see code below) . I have tried to get through on the phone but there is no dedicated email option on the menu. I thought I would try on here to see if anyone has any suggestions as to what the resolution is to this as I am missing emails that need.

Thank you in advance.

The issue re "Temporary Policy Violation detected" has started to come up quite regularity on this forum.

When it comes to getting help from VM staff via this forum the first thing to ask is whether your VM email account is still linked to a live VM broadband account, and if so, are you the main account holder?

If the answer to both those questions is "yes" then VM staff here can help you.

Moving on to the more general issue your post raises. It's fair to say that relying on having your own domain emails  forwarded to another email account is the least reliable option for managing your own domain email.

However, forwarding it to a VM account makes it even more vulnerable because VM always seem to apply very stringent checks on incoming emails.  So auto forwarded emails sent to a VM email account are much more likely to be delayed or simply not delivered. So if you are using your private domain for business purposes that's a big risk for your business.   (I will just add that VM stopped issuing new email accounts over 3 years ago. They still support the email accounts of existing VM broadband customers but they are actively closing down VM email accounts no longer linked to a paid for VM service)

The cheapest option would be to have your emails forwarded to an email account with a dedicated email provider, (Gmail, Outlook.com, Proton etc).  At least that will reduce the risk of emails not being delivered.

But you should also consider switching to one of Go Daddy's more expensive email plans that provide a full email facility rather than relying on forwarding emails to another provider.

One of the Forum Team (VM staff) will contact you via this thread in the next day or so.

Thank you for this comprehensive response.   My VM email is still linked to a live account and I am the main account holder. I do have 3 additional users created (family), each with their own email box.

I suppose my main question is, can VM Support make changes to settings on my email boxes to relax the stringent checks and let all my email through?  Would a request like this be picked up by VM Support in here, or do I have to contact them via another route?

I would rather stay with what I have and have it working than have to start to create other mailboxes elsewhere, although I am now considering this as an option.

I was with a domain host company called Names.Co and their forwarding was free and all emails were accepted through to VM. I am regretting switching to Go Daddy as I now have had to pay for mailboxes before they could forward emails for me (on top of the domain hosting cost). I will be looking to move again in 12 months.

Apologies, I just saw the bit about "One of the Forum Team (VM staff) will contact you via this thread in the next day or so", so ignore my remarks about how to raise.

Surely the big advantage of having your own domain is getting your own email addresses and never having to deal with VM email?

Yes, this would seem sensible. My previous host (Names.Co) did my forwarding for free without having to set up any additional mailboxes.  Moving to Go Daddy has brought with it an additional cost and a world of hurt, so am regretting it a little.  My longer term plan will be to find a domain host that will offer my forwarding for free. Names.Co seem to have changed their policy and do not offer free anymore to newly transferred domains, so I will be looking elsewhere when the next move comes. I do not want to have to pay any additional cost for mailbox hosting as I don't need it.

I’ve used Namecheap for years and had no problems.

Email forwarding has the problem that the SMTP IPs of the forwarder do not match the SPF records of the original sender.   A forwarded message looks like a forged email.
