eMail Account Cancellations Actions - Thanks to Forum Team

Thanks to the Forum Team who actioned "....We’ll close your Virgin Media email account in 30 days...." and brought across the xxxx@virgin.net etc. emails to my active account. It's a pity that VM Forum Team have to intervene. My view is that VM should investigate a way that customers with an active broadband account are able to link their orphan-email/accounts without having to go through the present intervention process. Surely this would be a cost effective way for VM to proceed.

I would guess VM's approach might well depend on what its long term plans are for the VM email service.

It would cost VM to make technical modifications to the customer web pages to allow that to happen. The VM forum team already exists to handle support queries so that is a cost-neutral route for VM. Just more work for the VM forum team.

If it was the case that VM sees no long term future for the VM email service, it would suit VM's objectives to allow as many of these legacy mailboxes as possible to disappear in the current round of deletions. Adding features to make it easier for customers to keep the mailboxes may not be to VM's long term email objectives (whatever they may be!).

  • Is there a way to check whether email accounts have been brought across to current VM accounts? We've been paying customers for over 20 years. We phoned the number on the email as soon as it arrived (15th October) and again on 29th October, but we've just been told that 'a ticket has been raised' and nothing seems to have happened yet. We've had our virgin.net email addresses for 25 years and really really don't want to lose them. How do I contact the forum team to intervene? Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place - the community forum seems to have become completely un-navigable since I last used it!

It may be great that VM moved your old mailbox.  But let’s look at the overall situation.
VM have for nearly 3 years stopped giving new customers mailboxes.  For Business users I believe it’s even longer.

Customers who leave, and who had an existing mailbox have these purged after 90 days.
So we have new customers with no mailboxes, older customers who mailboxes will be purged.  Considering the normal churn of customers there will be a point the VM email servers are no longer needed IMHO.
Personally anyone still using email should move to a non ISP based solution and the sooner the better.
