Email access issues p/w failure out of the blue

I access my emails on my phone and have had no issues until today when, out of the blue, it said there was a problem signing into my account. I've gone to use my password but it says it's wrong which concerns me in case it's been hacked. I can access my emails via the Virgin app but cannot find any way of changing the password for my email (@ntlworld.com a/c) so I can reset it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I think there might be a wider issue—I’ve had the same issue this evening.  Spent ages trying to reset my password and it still doesn’t work—but I can log into my emails if I go directly through the Virgin Media website.
So I’ve decided enough is enough for one night! It’s really unsettling, isn’t it? Hopefully it’ll work again tomorrow…

  • Thank you, that's interesting to know. I've reset my main Virgin 02 credentials with no issues but cannot find any way of resetting my email account password. The 'help' section instructions do not coincide with the options (or lack thereof!) that are available to me. It used to be so simple...

  • Hi MariaB-C,

We're sorry to hear you've been unable to access your email on your phone. You will need to set up an app password please. The steps on how to do this are below for convenience 😊
Sign in to My Virgin Media here http://virg.in/myVM
Go to Account settings, then Account details
Tap Manage next to Manage your Virgin Media Mail app password under Virgin Media Mail
Then, under Virgin Media Mail app password tap Get password
Continue the flow and a new secure password will be generated, and the mailbox unlocked
Update any third-party apps that may be used to access your Virgin Media Mail emails with this new app password.
If you have any issues at all, please let us know and we can advise further

This happened to us a few days ago.  We've followed those instructions to generate a new "email app password" which does NOT allow us to log into our @ntlworld email addresses using either gmail android app or MS Outlook app on Win11.

Just to clarify, have you followed the app password procedure as below?

To create one or update an existing one you need to follow these steps:

Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned with your VMO2ID
    Select Account Settings
    Select Identity & Security Settings
    Select Manage your products
    Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'
